Two weeks ago, Entrada re-visited a collection of videos I created called Teaching Little Hands. As I stated then:

A couple of years ago, I began a collection of videos designed for piano teachers working with young elementary students. Along with my student Allison (5 ¾ at the time), I explored the development of engaging strategies to be used by teachers with young students. Applying three-dimensional pedagogy at the earliest stages of study was a particular focus.

I recalled the first video in the Teaching Little Hands series and the wonderful time I had improvising alongside Allison. This time I want to share with you the most-watched video in the entire collection, Arm Weight Drops.

This short video shows how to initiate a preparatory lift with a supple wrist and drop into the keys while maintaining a quiet hand. Even very young students can cultivate the feeling of letting go. After demonstrating this technique to Alison, she quickly showcased her own ability to replicate the supple wrist and quiet hand.
